Mother’s Day Gift Guide

Mother's Day Gift Guide - Vivian and VioletMother’s Day is approaching quickly and being a first-time mom myself I feel like this year it’s more special than ever. To me, it’s not special because I expect gifts (don’t get me wrong I love great gifts), but it’s special because I feel like I appreciate all the amazing women in my life even more after having my own child. Being a mom is such a joy and I fully understand that even more now. Living halfway across the country from my mom/mother-in-law/grandmothers isn’t ideal (thank goodness for facetime) but I’m excited to celebrate with my hubby and little girl this year.

So while you are showering the special ladies in your life with love here are some gift ideas that everyone will enjoy!

Jewelry

Uncommon James has beautiful, dainty pieces that are great for everyday wear. Plus they are all under $100. The great thing about the collection is the pieces can easily be worn together (I love a layered necklace look) or individually. They scream polished and sophistication without overdoing it. My favorites are the Duchess necklace layered with the Cresent necklace and the Break Free bracelet. Check out the whole spring collection here.

Parpala Jewelry will have you weak in the knees if you love edgy pieces that give off that cool girl vibe without having to try too hard. To say I want all their pieces is an understatement. Their jewelry is also great for everyday wear and each piece is buildable on each other. My personal favorites are the 14k Solid Gold Letter necklace you can personalize and the Natural Bone Horn Necklace. Fall in love with more pieces by clicking here.

Baublebar could be your one-stop shop featuring everything from colorful bold jewelry to understated pieces you wear on the daily. I’m a big fan of the Sesilia Ear Crawler and how fun are the Gabriela Stud Tassel Earrings. Trust me when I say you could get lost in all the beautiful pieces they have to offer at an affordable price, click here to shop.

Flowers

All the women in my life love a bouquet of fresh blooms and Farmgirl Flowers knocks it out of the park! They now ship across the country. Their arrangements actually look like the photos they post online, to me that is a game changer. There has been way too many times I have sent flowers and they arrive looking nothing like what I had picked out. Each arrangement is designed by hand and the flowers are sourced ethically. Farmgirl Flowers will not disappoint, plus you can add a gorgeous vase or some yummy treats to your order.

Bags/Purses

I’m a big fan of Madewell’s leather goods. Their bags are made from quality Italian leather in classic designs that are timeless. Plus, you can personalize them which I think always make gifting more special. This transport tote could be perfect for the on-the-go mom or this crossbody bag for the mama that likes to have her hands free. Click here to shop all bags.

Skin Care Junkie/Beauty

You can do no wrong with True Botanicals skin care. They have a line for every skin type and their super nourishing products truly feel like spa day every day. It’s so important to feed your skin with clean amazing products and True Botanicals does just that! If you’re not sure what type of skin you’re buying for check out their shampoo, conditions, and body products.

RMS Beauty is clean, nourishing beauty products that you or your mom will fall in love with. Having a great skin care routine is key but if you don’t follow that up with clean makeup then all that skin care doesn’t matter. RMS makes beauty products that actually help nourish your skin. To make it easy for you they have gift sets made up and whats even better is you can customize them by picking the different shades you want. I’m a huge fan of The Ultimate Makeup Remover Wipes

DIY Statement Rings

image

My first post comes from inspiration from a very dear gift given to me. My great grandmother’s jewelry was officially given to me by my mother, back when I was in high school. She would find me going through the jewelry all the time when I was a little one. My mom knew my love for vintage things starting at a young age. I got the idea to repurpose the jewelry reading a fashion magazine (I don’t remember which one), way back when. The magazine talked about how designers would go to flea markets hunting and repurpose their findings into beautiful jewelry. I wanted to find different ways I could wear the clip on earrings and broaches with my everyday outfits. Here is my favorite way I have utilized the beautiful costume jewelry!

Items you will need for DIY Statement Rings:

image

1) Jewelry glue (found at craft store: mine is from Hobby Lobby)
2) Sandpaper
3) Clip on earring or broach
4) Ring blank (found mine on Etsy, you can also find them at craft stores)
5) Diagonal cutting pliers
6) Sharp knife (incase you need to cut a portion of the backing off)

image

start with the earring and cutting pliers

image

image

bend backing off the base of the earring, this gives you better visibility of where to cut the backing off, cut as close as possible

image

image

sand the left over area where you cut so it is no longer sharp, this helps to not scratch or cut yourself when wearing the ring

image

before you glue the earring to the ring blank, put the ring blank on your finger

place the earring on top and see how you want to position it when gluing

take ring blank off your finger, add a small amount of glue to the ring blank (be careful to not get glue on your skin)
attach earring how you want it positioned and hold it for around 15 seconds so the glue can set

once the glue is set, place your new ring down to dry for at least an hour before wearing, you can place the ring on its side or with the earring facing down on the table while letting it dry completely

now you have a beautiful new statement ring you can wear

If you don’t have a box of vintage jewelry laying around no worries. Thrift stores are a great place you can find a ton of awesome costume jewelry. Earrings and broaches are great items that are easy to repurpose into beautiful rings. Bonus when you buy earrings you can keep one for yourself and give the other ring to a friend!
