October cooler temps are in full swing! We just moved back to the Midwest, Minnesota to be exact. On our way, we passed through beautiful Missoula, Montana. The temps were cooler but the sun was shining brightly. I broke out my favorite red flannel while enjoying the view of the mountains all around us. To me, flannel is a fall staple. It’s so cozy and warm. Flannel is more versatile than you think. You can dress it up with some slacks and heeled boots, layer it under a blazer or down with your favorite jeans. I wore mine as a weekend casual look and it was the perfect way to keep me warm with the crisp air blowing.

So technically it isn’t the last weekend of summer, but Labor Day weekend always seems to be the closing of those long days spent outside. To me, there is nothing like a day at the beach or lake. There is just something about the water that is so calming and absolutely beautiful. It could have to do with the fact that I grew up going to my family’s cabin every weekend. Those days full of boating and fun in the sun I will treasure forever. Now being able to share these days in the sun with my husband and daughter makes it that more special.

I’m usually not big on one piece swimwear, but here in Northern Cali when you head to the beach if there is no sun it’s actually cold. This was the perfect way for me to stay warm while still getting my tan on for the 2 hours of sun that happen to make an appearance. I’m not saying I won’t be into more one-pieces, I just always was a bikini girl. Growing up in the middle of the country the humidity is insane so the less fabric the better haha. Also real talk… after having a baby 8 months ago, I still have a little weight lingering in the midsection so this just ultimately made me feel more comfortable. It helps that there are so many cute styles out there and a lot of them are now on sale because it is the end of the season (best time to get swimwear if you ask me). I paired my one piece with my favorite levis, straw hat and sunnies for a laid-back look.

I hope you all had the best Labor Day weekend. Now bring on the cozy sweaters and pumpkin spice everything for fall!

Affordable Summer Accessories

Affordable Summer Accessories | Vivian & Violet

Summer calls for some fun accessories and when I stumble across this Who What Wear article I couldn’t help but get my hands on a few to share with you! Here are a few of my favorite items I have had on rotate, some are so cheap on Amazon it’s almost unbelievable.

Summer Accessories

  • Net Market bag – Perfect for the weekly trip to the farmers market or running around town. It looks so cute holding everything from fruit to a magazine. It’s also great to take to the beach on those warm days in the sun. What’s even better it’s only $5 on Amazon! It comes in a few different colors too.
  • Siywina Acrylic Earrings – These are a beautiful green and only $10 on Amazon! They are super lightweight, which is key for me because I hate heavy earrings. I have paired mine with a tee & jean skirt but they would look great with pretty much anything in my closet. I’m excited to wear them into the fall as well with sweaters. Other colors are also available.
  • Jayne & James Morse Code Necklace – I have worn this necklace every day since I got it about 2 months ago. I think it’s such a cool idea! My necklace says my baby girls name “Elise Ann”. I even got my mom one that says “GMA Gigi”. The quality is amazing, I honestly haven’t taken it off and it still looks brand new. Jayne & James has so many cool pieces that are dainty and super feminine. I will for sure be purchasing more to add to my everyday jewelry collection soon.
  • Vintage Hair Scarf – My mom gave me this scarf that she got it in high school. I love to tie mine in my hair while out in the sun, around my neck, add to one of my purses or to my hats to change up the look of it. The possibilities are endless. Below are a few scarves I found for you to shop that I think are super cute.

Our Baby Favorites at 6 Months

Oshkosh Kids Dress (similar) | H&M headband

I can’t believe our little sweet pea Elise is 6 months old. To say time is passing fast is an understatement, but it is just the best thing ever to be her mama!

Today I am sharing some of our favorite things we have been loving these past 3 months. This list might all seem a little random, but it’s real life and what we use on the daily.

Places We Love for Clothes

When buying new clothes for Elise, I almost always buy her a size ahead of what she is wearing. It has worked out great for us so that she gets more wear out of the items. Right now she is just growing out of 3-6 month and starting to wear 6-9 month. I found it a little overwhelming to buy her clothes at first because you are basically growing a wardrobe from nothing, but now I have the hang of what we like/what works for the weather we live in (Bay Area moderate weather).

Zara is a great place to find fun trendy clothing for your little that doesn’t break the bank. I love that they have items that look more timeless and aren’t all the cliche pink color. They are still having their sale so be sure to check that out!

A few of the items I recently purchased at Zara: striped tee, floral tee, ruffle cardigan, (other items I purchased are already sold out)

Jamie Kay is a New Zealand brand that I just recently ordered from. The quality of the clothing is incredible for the price. I won’t lie we are on a budget like most and trying to find pretty clothes for her without spending an arm and a leg can be a challenge, but this brand has beautiful, unbelievably soft clothing at a reasonable price. The colors and prints are timeless. I am in love with this brand to say the least.

A few items I grabbed from Jamie Kay: cotton legging, cotton cardi, bodysuit

H&M has incredible sales where you can get super cute items real cheap. Below I have linked some for you.

Old Navy has cute items. I grabbed a bunch of their printed onesies back when they were just $3 a piece. They run sales all the time so you can score pieces for really cheap here as well. The items have held up great through all the washes we have put them through. Also, who doesn’t love a cute flowery onesie?

Pajamas

I’m all about fun pajamas that don’t break the bank and are also super comfy for Elise. We love Burt’s Bees for this. They have the cutest PJs and they run sales all the time which is AHmazing. Elise is just growing out of the 3-6 month size for reference.

Bath Time Products/Moisturizers

I am a fan of Everyday Shea products. They use Ethically Traded ingredients that are handcrafted with no synthetic fragrances and are paraben free which is important to me when finding products for her delicate skin. I use the Lavender Lemon Shampoo and Body Wash (16 oz). I haven’t had to buy a new shampoo since she was born. We give her a water bath/wash her hair every night and use the soap on her skin every 2-3 days so it doesn’t dry out.

Elise has super sensitive skin, to the point that if I use certain lotions or detergents it turns blotchy and bright red. The Everyday Shea Lavender Lotion has been a lifesaver for us. It’s gentle on her skin while still moisturizing.

The other moisturizer that has worked wonders for her skin is California Baby Calendula Cream. I use this when she has drier patches of skin and on her legs. It has been a game changer for her skin and we have tried just about everything.

Activities/Toys

Elise is a busy bee these days and loves to play with her little toys. Her favorites right now are this elephant and giraffe. They hook onto her stroller or car seat making it super easy to take them on the go. She loves the bright colors and different textures.

I grabbed this Indestructible book for her when we were on a trip back to Omaha and she thinks its the greatest thing ever.  She has crinkled, chewed and pulled on it.

For teethers, we love this Sophie La Girafe ‘So Pure’, this cute cactus, and MAM mini cooler teether.

Elise loves to spend time in the Fisher-Price Rainforest jumper a good friend of mine recommended. It also helps to have her distracted so I can make dinner or do a few quick things in the room with her. Also, watching her in it is super entertaining. She is a little ham.

These are just a few of the things we are loving right now. Please let me know if you have any questions about any of the products. If you are a new mom or soon to be, I hope this helps give you an idea of some of the things you may be looking for at the 6-month stage!

Polka Dots

Polka Dots - Vivian and Violet

Forever 21 Shirt (similar) | Levi Wedgie Shorts | Birkenstock Arizona | Vans Sunglasses (similar)

Polka dots have been all the rage this season. Some would possibly call them trendy, but I would like to call them a closet staple. It’s one of those patterns that is timeless to have in your arsenal (think Aubrey Hepburn classic). You can pull them out in any season and feel like a lady. They also can add a playful touch to any outfit.

I paired my polka dot button down with some cut offs and laid back Birkenstocks. I love that this shirt can easily be paired with black skinnies or a skirt for a night out. Want to wear it to church/brunch on Sunday? Add some cute linen pants like these. The possibilities are endless. If you don’t have any polka dots in your closet, now could be the perfect time to add them.

Here are some of my favorite polka dot pieces I need to add to my closet asap!
